Welcome to our forums. Please let us know if there is anything we can do to make the Welk Forums a better place for you. The Welk Forums were just created on Saturday, November 3 so we're just taking the shrink wrap off.
If something doesn't work, please let us know. We can change the format, add new forums, delete forums . . . .
BTW, the avatar I'm using is a photo of yours truly when I was in First Grade way back in the . . . . well, it was a long time ago. It was taken back in the days when Lawrence Welk was still on ABC and broadcast in black and white. My grandparents would watch The Lawrence Welk Show every Saturday night. Every now and then I'd spend the night at their house and watch the show with them. And, like you, I'm still watching. |

"Lizhen to that studio audieance applauze at your picture Davvph. My Gootness, you getting more applauze than me" as Mr. Welk would of said ! Of course, judging by your picture, Dave, we both are in the same age era .... too old for acne and just right for AARP ! I will be visiting this site often. Can I roll in the Bubble Machine and play some Myron Floren Polkas and ask "those wunnerful ladies in the audieance do tag me while polga dancing butuh don't knock me down" ?
Again, Dave, congrats on this site and best wishes !

Stan,
Thanks for being the first member of The Welk Forums. We'll get this thing off the ground and into the air yet!
I have visited your webpage and it is "wunnerful, wunnerful."
I'm going to add a list of Welk-related links to the intro. page in the next couple of days and your site will be there. |

"Nowah poys, I wanna git a really good sound from you while you play this World War Eye nummer, so pee on your toes and don't miss a note" Mr. Welk giving instructions to the band. Imagine, the Welk Show in High Def format on PBS stations ! Little did Mr. Welk know that his simple TV Show would last forever ! _________________ I host a radio program called "Musical Memories" and play Welk music often. I believe that unique accent was a genuine asset to Lawrence - it helped make him who he was. Everyone on the show was great - but, somehow, it just wouldn't have been the Lawrence Welk Show if Lawrence spoke accent-free, standard American English.
Our old family doctor had a heavy German accent (he was born in Berlin) but he spoke nothing like Lawrence. In fact, I never heard anyone talk like Lawrence Welk - and I think that was part of the mystique. He had a wonderful personality and that accent just made him all the more fascinating.
I really feel grateful to have grown up in an era when we were entertained by people like Lawrence Welk, Lucille Ball, Jack Benny, Jackie Gleason and, perhaps the greatest showman of them all, Walt Disney. |

That plus his stage charisma helped too....he was born and blessed with the pure love and joy of entertaining the folks, and we are all thankful for sharing it with the world! _________________ "Now here's a medley of songs from World War Eye" |

You're right. Putting that show on week after week had to be hard work. But the enthusiasm Lawrence showed was obvious every time the camera was on him. You could tell he was enjoying every minute of it and that nothing was more important to him than pleasing his audience.
I rememberd how sad I felt when he retired back in 1982. It was like I wouldn't get to see my grandfather anymore. |

Dave, hope my "Welk-ism" dialogue does not upset anyone ... I am doing this out of my true admiration for Mr. Welk !
My best,
