I remember watching Perry's shows back in the 1950s. I remember him sitting on a stool as he'd sing - was there ever a more relaxed singer than Perry Como?
Do you remember this part of the show? "Letters. We get letters. We get stacks and stacks of letters."
I think my favorite song of all time may be Perry singing, "Catch a falling Star." What memories that brings back.
Perry Como was also a very important part of Christmas at our house. About the time the Christmas tree and all the decorations went up, Perry Como started playing on the big Magnavox console stereo. "If you want to be happy in a million ways, for the holidays you can't beat home sweet home."
My favorite was and is "The Christmas Story." Perry would tell the story of the first Christmas. I thought that old LP was gone forever until, one day, I found the exact album on CD in a Christmas store. I'll never part with it. |
